Ross Stores have received many customer complaints about the company's return policy.
Customers are unhappy when they are not able to get their money back even
though they have not lost their receipt. In this business process model, we will
need data that connects the customer’s purchase to a date, the customer’s card
number, transaction number, the receipt number, and other important unique
pieces of data. We can use the data deriving from the customer's card number to their receipt number. After the receipt number is found, the return can be completed, resulting in happier customers.

The key elements in a return transaction are the receipt number, customer card number, transaction number, and the stock keeping unit or SKU number of the product. When a customer does not have their receipt present, that will require the cashier to work backwards. The cashier will start with the customer card number. The customer card number will be associated with the transaction numbers. Transaction numbers narrows down all possible receipts noting the customer’s purchases. To narrow further to find the specific receipt, the cashier can search the product’s SKU number. After searching the SKU number associated with the transaction number and customer card number, the cashier can find the original receipt number that provides a complete display of the receipt. The complete display will show more pertinent information such as the date of purchase, the item type, and the price of the item.
